MEFA Pathway’s MyCAP Curriculum Guide

The guides outline suggested activities in MEFA Pathway per grade level (6-12) that tie into the objectives identified within the three MyCAP domains: Personal & Social, Career Development and Education, and Academic College & Career Planning.

In 2013, the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education (DHE) collaborated and identified three domains necessary for college and career readiness: personal social fulfilment, career development and education, and academic planning. As a result, the My Career and Academic Plan (MyCAP), a customized planning tool for students and educators, was established.

MyCAP is a 7-year academic and career plan that tracks and supports the growth of students to ensure postsecondary success, incorporating the three domains above. The MyCAP modeul encourates the use of an electronic platform that enables students to be vested in their learning experience, and to pursue opportunities that align with identified interests, skills, and self-defined goals.

Many districts across the Commonwealth have embraced the framework of MyCAP and the goals and objectives represented. MyCAP is a strategy plan that differs from school to school, is implemented by teachers and counselors, and is customized to meet the needs of a school’s population. Students and educators can utilize MEFA Pathway, MEFA’s own college and career planning website, as their designated platform to ensure that the goals and objectives of the three domains are fulfilled.

MEFA Pathway is a comprehensive, free-of-cost resource offered to students in grades 6-12 that provides a seamless transition from middle school through high school. The MEFA Pathway Counselor Portal provides a dedicated MyCAP page within each student’s record to track activities, trends, and differences over the course of postsecondary planning. Additionally, the page allows educators to identify barriers to success and provides support to help overcome those barriers.

MEFA is excited to offer MyCAP Curriculum Guides that outlines suggested activities in MEFA Pathway per grade level (6-12) that tie into the objectives identified within the three MyCAP domains. Lesson plans are identified within the guides to incorporate the suggested activities. Get the guides below and start planning.
